How to Set Up a Google Business Profile in Trinidad and Tobago

When someone in Chaguanas, San Fernando or Scarborough searches for a service near them, Google shows a small set of local businesses first. Those listings come from Google Business Profiles, and setting yours up is free.

Step by step

1. Search for your business name on Google or open Google Business Profile and sign in with a Google account that you control. Use an account the business owns, not a staff member's personal one.
2. Check first whether a listing already exists. Many businesses already have an unclaimed or duplicate profile. Claim it instead of creating a second one.
3. Enter your exact business name, as it appears on your signage and invoices. Adding keywords to the name breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
4. Choose your main category carefully. It is the strongest signal of what you do. Add a few secondary categories that are true.
5. Add your location, or your service area if you travel to customers. If you work from home, you can hide the address and show only the areas you serve.
6. Add your phone number, website, opening hours and a short description in plain words.
7. Verify the profile. Google offers the options that apply to your business, which can include phone, text, email, a video recording or a postcard. Follow the steps Google shows you and complete verification before you make other changes.

• Post updates and offers regularly.
• Ask happy customers for honest reviews, and reply to every review. Never buy or invent reviews.
